You won’t want to sleep on seeing this pantomime production of Sleeping Beauty. Currently playing at the New Victoria Theatre in Woking until Sunday 5th January.

Without a doubt, this is one of the best pantomimes I have seen for a very long time. Having not usually been a fan of panto, this one has certainly changed my mind on them (oh yes it has!). This show is not just for kids, the adults will absolutely love the nostalgic feeling, the adult humour and if you were a Steps fan, like myself, then you will understand and enjoy the few references made towards them.

Richard Cadell who played Muddles completely stole the show and every scene he was in was brilliant, funny and just pure entertainment; bringing classic old friends like Sooty and Sweep to the stage, hence the nostalgic feeling.

I was a massive fan of Steps when I was a young girl (they were actually my first concert I ever saw when I was 12), so getting to witness Faye Tozer perform as Carabosse was incredible. As well as looking stunning in all of her wickedly beautiful costumes both her singing and acting were top tier.

Also a shoutout must go to Christopher Biggins who plays The Spirit of Dreams, essentially the narrator, but in the second half his costume changes during a certain song will have you howling, it  is just pure comedy genius.

I was very impressed by the staging effects, especially how they did the “flying helicopter”, and the dragon on the second act made my jaw drop, as I definitely wasn’t expecting that from a pantomime production. They clearly have put so much effort and work into this production and you can see that all the way through.

The songs are brilliant, especially “If I Didn’t Work at the Palace” that had me and my 11 year old howling with laughter throughout. This number is quite a risk, but I loved it and it definitely suited my sense of humour. In fact, my face still hurts now from all the laughing! Even if you don’t have kids I would recommend anyone to see this production...I may need to get another booked in.
